Welcome to "The Fence"
The Fence came about when the need arose to relocate a colony of cats from Hood Drive due to the development of the area. The Fence is a parcel of land that has been provided for those semi-feral and feral cats taken from the colony and are now safe and monitored for medical needs and provided for daily. The Fence is an ongoing journey of love and commitment to those who reside there. The routine care provided is far more than just providing food and water. Caretakers spend time with the cats while also respecting boundaries which has led to beautiful moments we often post and share on our Facebook page. There is always work to be done to maintain the area and care for the cats who live there.
The first cats arrived at the Fence on April 8, 2016. The Fence is surrounded by a ‘Purr-fect’ cat fence. Originally it only included two 8’x12′ permanent, insulated sheds to provide shelter from the elements along with additional shelters and water and feeding stations. Today, it has grown to include a cat run, lounge platforms, decks, foliage for the cats to hide in, and heated ad air-conditioned shelters. Approximately 100 cats currently call the Fence home.
When caring for the kitties at the Fence we go through a lot of canned and dry food every day. Daily feedings at the Fence consist of using a 20 lb bag of dry food and 15 to 20 (13 ounce) cans of wet food each day! There are often times we use more depending on the season and appetites of the kitties. We have numerous feeding and water stations throughout that the kitties have access to with food and fresh water. We are always looking at ways to provide enrichment activities for the kitties that live at The Fence such as scratching posts and toys to keep the kitties that are curious busy and engadged.
