What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
Operation Hood continues to promote and educate the community on the need for Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Trap-Neuter-Return, or "TNR," is the most humane and effective method known for managing feral and stray cats and reducing their numbers. The cats, who typically live together in a group called a colony, are trapped and brought to a veterinary clinic. They're then spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, and ear-tipped. After they've recovered from their surgeries, the cats are returned back to where they were trapped where a caretaker provides regular food and shelter. When foster or permanent homes are available, young kittens and friendly adults are removed and placed for adoption. During this time access to Spay/Neuter Clinics has become more difficult due to COVID-19 but we currently are fortunate to continue to push through while implementing the safety measures needed to safely trap cats in need of TNR as appointments allow. We are a small "volunteer" based group that receives many requests for assistance. Volunteer support is critical in making a difference in the lives of the cats so please consider checking out our volunteer link on our website. We have had to make adjustments to opportunities that are available due to COVID-19 but we are in need of fosters to assist with momma cats with kittens and cats who need more 1:1 social interaction as the need arises before being adopted. Various opportunities are available for you to also make a difference. Your support enables us to continue to make an impact in the lives of cats in need!
We can show generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesday, whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection even while practicing physical distancing. “As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday."
#GivingTuesday is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. From calling an elderly neighbor to chat to offering translation help; from showing gratitude to our healthcare workers to donating to your local food bank, every act of kindness is a beacon of hope in this crisis. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.”
